*** It’s time for skiing and snowboarding. See you there! ***

UPDATE #7: The email with my cell no. and cottage no. has been sent to the yes RSVPs. If you do not see my email, check your spam folder, and also make sure your email and Meetup settings allow for you to always receive messages from the organizer. If it’s not there, send me a message through my Meetup profile with your cell no. so I can text you back. See you there!

UPDATE #6: I will send out an email Friday morning of the trip with my cell no. and my cottage no. for you to meet me. Please make sure your email and Meetup notification settings allow for you to always receive messages from the organizer. I’ll be there at 4pm, and I will collect your waiver and give everyone their lift ticket passes, rental forms, lesson tickets, etc. You will also need to do a pre-trip walkthrough of your unit and fill out a form with any damages. Just a reminder, please first go to the Main Lodge (230 Main Lodge Road) to get your cottage key before meeting me at my cottage. Cottages will be ready for checkin at 4pm (see the “Friday Itinerary” section of the trip posting for full details). Please also fill out and bring with you the waiver (see the “Waiver” section of the trip posting). I’ll have extras, but it will help me out greatly if you can fill it out beforehand. If you are running late, please TEXT me. This UPDATE has also been emailed to the YES RSVPs. See you there!

UPDATE #5: Just a reminder, if you plan to arrive early on the Friday of our trip (before 4pm), please let me know your ETA (send to me a message through my Meetup profile) by Thurs. Feb. 22nd so I can know when to expect you. Meet me at the Main Lodge (230 Main Lodge Road) so I can give you everything you need to go down the slopes. Cottages will be ready for checkin at 4pm, so if you are an early arrival, you’ll need to leave your belongings in your vehicle or at the front desk of the Main Lodge until then.

UPDATE #4: Just a friendly reminder, for those that have signed up and made payment for the trip, if you have not already submitted your attendee information (see the “Attendee Information” section of the event posting), please send that to me (through my Meetup profile) as soon as you can. Thank you!

UPDATE #3: The early-bird pricing ends before Wed. Feb. 7th and there are only 7 spots lefts. Make payment to lock in your spot. I hope to see you there!

UPDATE #2: The “early early-bird” price has ended and the “early bird” ticket price is now in effect. Looking forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE #1: There are fewer than 10 “early early-bird” spots left and the price will increase when the “early early-bird” spots are gone or by Sat. Jan. 20th (whichever comes first). To be fair to those who want to join in and are ready to make payment, I’ll be removing those that haven’t paid by Sun. Jan. 7th, then every Monday after that, then every day the final week. Make payment to *truly* lock in your spot (see the “Trip Options” and “Payment” sections of the event posting). If you’ve already made payment, the PayPal email you received is confirmation that we’ve received your payment (no need to email me asking for ticket confirmation). This UPDATE has been emailed to the yes RSVPs. I hope to see you there!

Let’s get together for a weekend of skiing and snowboarding!

I’ve made special arrangements for our group for a full weekend of skiing / snowboarding at Canaan Valley Ski Resort (a ~3 hour drive from DC). With a 4.5 rating on Trip Avisor, Canaan Valley is THE HIGHEST mountain valley east of the Rockies, with a peak elevation of 4300 feet, and as such provides us with plentiful snow, as well as riding trails. Nestled on a plateau overlooking the valley, offering sweeping views of the surrounding peaks, it was recently named one of “America’s Best Parks” by Arthur Frommer’s Magazine, and among the “50 Great Places to Stay” in Washingtonian Magazine. It is home to lengthy trails serviced by modern chairlifts and supported by a large snowmaking system. Canaan Valley has limited skier and snowboarder traffic that allows for short lift lines. We have access to 47 trails, 850 feet of vertical drop, and an average of 180 inches of snow per year. We did a weekend ski trip in previous years and it was a blast!

LODGING

I’ve reserved for us a block of 4 bedroom 2 bath cottages. Each cottage features a wood burning fireplace, fully equipped kitchens, including stove with oven, refrigerator with freezer, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and dishwasher. Cottages are ready for checkin at 4pm.

FRIDAY ITINERARY

We’ll check-in Friday night. We’ll go to the Main Lodge (230 Main Lodge Road) to get our keys. Then you’ll come to my cottage (TBA) from 4pm – midnight so that I can give you your lift tickets, rental forms, lesson tickets, etc. (if you arrive at the resort after midnight, please meet me at Hickory Dining Room for breakfast Saturday morning at 9am… I’ll give you everything then). After that, feel free to go enjoy the main lodge, check out the pub, lounge, arcade, gift shop, get a massage and / or facial, enjoy the indoor heated pool, sauna, fitness center, or the awesome hot tub (they close at 10pm) on our own! If you wish to arrive early on Friday to get a jump on skiing / snowboarding, meet me at the Main Lodge (230 Main Lodge Road) and please let me know your ETA beforehand so I can give you everything you need to go down the slopes. Rooms are ready for checkin at 4pm.

SATURDAY ITINERARY

Then Saturday morning at 9am, we’ll get together for breakfast at Hickory Dining Room in the Main Lodge. All meal costs are on our own. If you wish to get an earlier jump on the day, by all means, please do. You’ll need to drop off your Liability Release form to the ticket window at Bear Paw Ski Lodge in the morning. If you rented equipment, please take your rental form to Bear Paw Rental Center to pick up your equipment. If you signed up for lessons, you’ll go to Bear Paw and follow the signs straight through the building to the building behind it. Your lesson begins at 11am. If you would like to schedule it for a different time, please call 304.866.4121 x2630 by at least the day prior (the earlier the better) to change.

  • At 12:45pm, I’d like to do a group photo in front of Bear Paw Plaza (around the fire ring) with our ski / snowboard gear on.
  • At 4pm, we’ll meet at the Tubing Park for a late afternoon of snowtubing (if you signed up for it)!
  • At 7pm, if you’d like to join us for dinner, I’ll make reservations for us at a private banquet room at the main lodge. Menu includes tossed salad, beverage (iced tea, tea, or coffee), dessert (chef’s choice), and our choice of the following entrees: Beef Pot Roast (slow-cooked pot roast in natural juices, served with mashed potatoes, gravy, and seasonal vegetables), Herb Roasted Half Chicken (roasted breast of chicken, lightly seasoned, served with wild rice, and seasonal vegetables), Stuffed Pork Loin (slow roasted pork loin with savory home style bread stuffing topped with a cranberry cream sauce, roasted potatoes, and seasonal vegetables), or Eggplant (stuffed eggplant with grilled vegetables; gluten free). Restaurant reserves the right to make changes as necessary.
  • At 9pm, we’ll meet at my cottage (TBA) for some pre-game activity before heading out at 10pm to Laurel Lounge for music, drinks, mingling, billiards, dart boards, and fun!

SUNDAY ITINERARY

Sunday morning we’ll do it all over again at Hickory Dining Room at 9am! Again, if you wish to get an earlier jump on the day, by all means, please do. Check out time is 10am, so be sure to return your keys to the front desk at the Main Lodge (230 Main Lodge Road), and put your bags in your cars before you hit the slopes.

CARPOOLING

If you need a ride, I suggest posting in the comment box below. Likewise, if you can offer a ride, please also post in the comment box with number of people you can accommodate.

ATTENDEE INFORMATION

Please send me a message (through my Meetup profile) with the following information as soon as you’ve secured your spot by making payment: (1) Do you have a preferred roommate? If so, please provide full first and last name. If not, we will assign you one (of the same sex). (2) To help us assign roommates and cabins, please provide your sex and sex of any guests. (3) If you signed up and made payment for the group dinner (see the “Trip Options” section), please let me know the entrée option you would like. If you do not provide one by Thurs. (5) If you purchased a 3-day lift ticket or 3-day rental equipment, please provide your ETA on Fri. Feb. 23rd

WAIVER

Please fill out and bring with you the following liability release form (even if you are not renting equipment). Click here. I’ll have extras, but this will help expedite things upon arrival.

PAYMENT

PayPal account not required. Please follow the steps below (if payment by smartphone doesn’t work, please try your computer). Your RSVP is not guaranteed without payment, and your email receipt is confirmation that we have received your payment (please check your spam folder and email settings). You can also log into your PayPal or credit card account online to verify payment. Payment at the door will be permitted only should the event not sell out. Our events do sell out, so I recommend you secure your spot online early. If you make payment for less than the current ticketed price displayed without prior correspondence, your RSVP will be removed.

  1. Select “Yes” under “Are you going?” (or select “Change” RSVP to add more guests if you’ve already purchased ticket(s))
  2. Enter the number of guests coming and click “Finish RSVP”
  3. Click “Pay Now” (or “Pay Online Now”) at the top of the event posting near the ticket price per person
  4. Verify correct dollar amount for number of people you’re paying for. Modify if appropriate, click “Pay Now” or “Check Out” button
  5. If you don’t have a PayPal account, click “Pay with a Debit or Credit Card”
  6. If you have a PayPal account, simply log in, and pay as you normally would via PayPal

EVENT CHECK-IN

I will have a master list of all those that have paid. It’s not required, but I recommend printing out your payment confirmation email as a backup (if you are not on the list, you will be required to show it). When you check-in, your RSVP will be listed under the name of the PayPal or credit card account used to make payment. Typically, this is your LEGAL name as shown on your driver’s license. Sometimes, it may be under a company name if you set up your PayPal or credit card account that way. If you are not sure what it is, please log into your PayPal account (it will say “Welcome, [your account name]” at the top) or your credit card account to find out. If you are RSVP’d under someone else’s payment, please use that name for check-in.

REFUND POLICY

Since this event is paid for in advance, all sales are final unless the event is canceled or rescheduled. If the event is canceled or rescheduled, an UPDATE will be posted at the top of the event posting, and the UPDATE will also be sent as an email to the yes RSVPs. A full refund will be submitted no later than Wednesday of the following week. For rescheduled events, you must let me know within 3 calendar days of the UPDATE email if you are unable to make the new date… no refunds will be given after that time. Thanks for understanding. =)

TICKET RESELL / TRANSFER

Similar to a concert ticket or a football game ticket, you are free to sell / transfer your ticket to someone else (same sex only if individual spot; if a couple spot, only to another couple or to 2 people of the same sex) if you are unable to attend. I suggest posting in the comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale / transfer. Work out any payment between yourselves, and have the seller only send me (the organizer) a message through my Meetup profile (do not comment in the comment box of the event posting) letting me know the first AND last name, and Meetup profile URL (if a member) of the person taking your spot (please also copy them on the message). To obtain their Meetup profile URL, go to their profile from the mobile website or your computer (not the app), and copy & paste the URL from your browser. I host a lot of events and groups, so please let me know the event name and group name the ticket transfer is for. You must let me know by the RSVP close time of 4am on the day of the event.

SPECIAL NEEDS

If you have any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, dietary for events with food included, etc.), let me know in advance (a week or more before the event) and I will do my best to accommodate (message me through my Meetup profile, do NOT comment on the event posting). If you let me know the day of the event, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to help. Thank you for understanding and I appreciate the courtesy of a heads up!
